NOVA MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
It’s a new year, with new goals, and as we continue to motivate one another on the mats, we want to highlight our longest continuous member at NOVA, Kurt in Oak Creek:
NOVA: What brought you into Nova when the doors first opened in 2014?
Kurt: My wife and I just moved to the area and I was looking for a new gym. After looking around and not finding what I will call a "traditional gym” at that time near us, I found NOVA. I was looking for something a little different from lifting weights and treadmills and decided to give it a try.
NOVA: You have continually trained the longest with us in our Kickboxing program. What about kickboxing and/or Nova, has kept you going strong all these years?
Kurt: Wow I didn't realize that! It's fun! It’s also a great stress relief, good for my cardio. Hitting the bag and pad work gets a lot of stress and energy out and lets me relax more.
NOVA: Many of our coaches have praised the hard work and training ethic you've put into each class. What motivates you most in accomplishing your fitness goals?
Kurt: I just try and improve a little each time. We have great coaches, each one with their own insight on form and motions, this helps me to fine tune my workout and skills. Even after these years I’ve got a lot to learn yet and improve upon.
NOVA: What would you say is the most positive benefit of kickboxing?
Kurt: Cardio and stress relief. It really gets the heart going, I’ve learned to properly breath. It’s great to get the stress out from the day.
NOVA: What words of encouragement do you have for anyone hesitant about getting into the sport, or hesitant about improving their fitness as a whole?
Kurt: It really is for everyone but you need to take the time and listen to the coaches. Paying attention to the coaches can really help you build up to where you want to be. Heavy bags are a great starting point but the real fun is working with pads. They are a lot of fun and let you really understand the reasons why the coaches have been teaching what they have. Many of the other members are also great resources and everyone is there to learn and help one another.
Thank you Kurt for your time sharing your experiences at NOVA, and for the New Year’s motivation!
NOVA PEWAUKEE
Coach Mat Myga continues to grow our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program in Pewaukee, with several of our students actively competing! If you would like to train in Pewaukee, we are taking inquiries ONLINE (both Kids and Adults BJJ). View the class schedule here, and visit NOVA Pewaukee’s Facebook page Cobra Kai Jiu Jitsu On The Lake for updates.
HIGHLIGHTS FROM DAN SEVERN WORKSHOP
Last month NOVA presented a rare, one of a kind workshop taught by UFC Hall of Famer and pro wrestling star, Dan “The Beast” Severn. Dan led workshops for both kids and adults at our Oak Creek location. He gave us hands-on knowledge taught like no other. We plan to grow our relationship with Dan for future events! Here are some pics from the workshop:
We look forward to being a part of your fitness journey this year. Let’s make those goals and not just meet them, but exceed them! Cheers to 2021.
-Thank you/OSS-
