Marc Laimon is a renowned grappling coach who holds the rank of black belt in Brazillian jiu jitsu under John Lewis and is the orginal founder of the world famous Cobra Kai BJJ academy in Las Vegas. According to BJJ Hereos Marc is one of the top guard passers and coaches in the grappling game.
Marc has worked on the ground games of several MMA fighters, including Bas Rutten, Oleg Tatakrov, Mark Kerr, Frank Mir, Rico Rodriguez, Tito Ortiz, Chuck Liddel, Joe Stevenson, Kendal Grove, Johny Hendricks, Shane Roller and many others. Marc is known also for producing well known jiu jitsu black belts such as Sim Go and Chris Holdsworth. Having traveled the world competing and coaching at the highest levels of the sport and achieving many goals, Marc now resides in Wisconsin and is focusing on passing his knowledge to everyone that wants to learn.
Marc was an instructor on the famous MMA reality show TUF (The Ultimate Fighter) and also had three TUF show winners come out of his gym in Vegas. It was announced in 2010 that Laimon would move away from his Las Vegas gym help Team Takedown turn Johny Hendricks into the UFC world champion, and when Marc accomplished his goal in 2014 (Johny won the UFC belt) Team Takedown was said to have changed the game in developing UFC champions.
Although much of coach Marc Laimon’s rhetoric speaks about his progressive guard mentality design to use guard the guard realistically and more effectively for self defense or sport , many of Marc Laimon’s top students are savvy guard players.
In 2019 Marc Laimon and UFC fighter and fellow Wisconsin native Ben Askren accidentally ran into each other and began working together to help Ben prepare for his upcoming UFC fights.
